The Edge

Connersville provides you with the edge that you need to compete in the global economy of the 21st century. Connersville employers draw upon a work force that stretches from Cincinnati, Ohio to Indianapolis, Indiana. State of the art education and workforce training is available locally through Ivy Tech Community College, Whitewater Valley Career Center and Indiana University East. Purdue education programs are also available locally and the Community Education Center supports lifelong learning for all Fayette County residents.

The Economic Development Group partners with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Indiana Rural Development, the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the U. S. Department of Agriculture and other federal, state, and local agencies and institutions to provide Fayette County businesses with the resources and assistance needed to compete in the global economy.

Local support and assistance for either new or existing business is also accessed through the Economic Development Group.

UEA - Zone Benefits for Businesses and Residents
Tax credits, deductions, abatements, scholarships, and low interest loans are available to the people and business located in the zone.

RLF - Revolving Loan Fund (Main Street)
Low interest gap financing is available to finance equipment purchases, for working capital, or to help finance the cost of moving into Fayette County.

Tax Abatement:
Abatements of either real property taxes or personal property taxes for manufacturing equipment or research and development equipment are used to support the efforts of either new business or existing businesses. Applications (link) are submitted through the Community Development Division of the Economic Development Group.
Tax Increment Financing: Fayette County TIF funds allow for continued infrastructure development, new construction, property acquisition and training. The amount of revenue available is dependent upon the size of the capital investment undertaken by the company. To leverage the TIF revenue, tax-exempt or taxable bonds may be issued in support of the project. Bonds are retired through property tax revenues generated by the project.

EDGE Tax Credit:
The Economic Development Group will provide technical assistance and aid in the preparation of applications for this state program. This credit is based upon payroll and allows individual income tax withholdings from employees to be credited against Indiana corporate income tax liability. Excess withholdings are refunded to the company for up to a ten year period

Starting a Business

Small businesses employ more than half of the private workforce and represent 99.7% of all companies in America, according to a new report by the U.S. Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy.

The Connersville/Fayette County Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the Southeastern Indiana Small Business Development Center. The Small Business Development Center is a state based organization offering a wealth of free and low cost information, management counseling, and educational services designed to support Indiana small business owners and potential entrepreneurs. The SBDC’s mission is to help Indiana business grow and create new jobs within the state.

In 2005, the ISBDC Network provided counseling to more than 2,963 clients, 23.55% of which were continuous clients. The ISBDC Network spent a total of 29,084 hours advising clients in 2005, around 9.82 hours per client. 75% of those hours were spent with Existing Business Clients.

Economic Development Group
The Economic Development Group (EDG) of Fayette County provides economic development services for the City of Connersville and for Fayette County. The EDG supports the creation of economic and employment opportunities for the people and businesses of Fayette County by encouraging private investment into our local economy.

The EDG provides business attraction, retention, and expansion services. The EDG owns industrial park properties, which it markets to business entities inside of Fayette County and around the world. The EDG maintains a database of existing sites and buildings for commercial and industrial occupancy. It furnishes technical advice and services to local businesses to aid in their expansion efforts. The EDG assists in the accessing of state support for business attraction and expansion.

The EDG’s Revolving Loan Fund provides low cost gap financing for business attraction and / or expansion. The EDG manages the Urban Enterprise Zone on behalf of the Urban Enterprise Association.

The Community Development Division of the EDG provides grant writing and administration services for local units of government and for area not-for-profit organizations. It also evaluates and recommends the granting of tax abatements to the City of Connersville. The EDG administers tax abatements during the abatement period of three to ten years on behalf of the city. For more information contact:
